Imitation Victim

During a quiet time, Melissa did a great job pretending to be a victim for us so that we could practice racing out with the backboard and safely transporting said victim off the ice. One of the hockey players at a later game actually had to be placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. (We had to let the ambulance have a turn using their backboard this time.)

Deaflympics Festivities

Jessica Edwards, Ann, and Jaime at opening ceremonies. Beth and Mom and Dad were sitting behind us. Notice which shirt Jessica is wearing? Hint: she's Canadian.

These girls were an attraction in the crowd sitting together like that.

Have you ever wondered what a first aid kit looked like on skis? Here it is! Amazing, huh?

An International Experience

group photo of medical volunteers Jaime and I joined these other individuals to be a part of the medical volunteer team for the Deaflympics. We were able to sit in at different venues and wait for people to get hurt. Of course, it wouldn't be polite to hope for victims, but it was nice to know we could do something if anyone needed anything. :)
Jaime and Ann sitting on snowy hillside We were mostly at the Steiner Hockey Rink, but we did get to go out and see the snowboarding races at Park City. We had our first aid kits in our backpacks and we were on skis in case we had to swoop down on someone. Most of the time the athletes would crash, curse to themselves, refuse help, and just want to get on out of there across the finish line. Nobody wanted to be bothered, really.
