Welcome to Hawaii
I went to Hawaii for a Global Health class at BYU. All of us chose a location outside Utah Valley to learn about other cultures' ways of healing. The objective was to make us more aware of the importance of being culturally competent in nursing.
Our shuttle drivers from the airport with a sign that says, "BYU Nurses". On the way to the dorms, the man was driving and talking to us. All of a sudden he slowed down to a stop and grinned really wide. He exclaimed to us, "That's my wife!" He pointed to a girl on the street with a backpack on walking in the heat of the day. (He had just gotten married last week.) He called out to her and she climbed in the van. The first thing he did was turn around and take her home and then he proceeded with dropping us all off at the dorms of BYU Hawaii. I thought that was sweet of him. Hawaii is laid back enough that he can do such a thing without getting in trouble, unlike here in the mainland where supervisors have a fit if the minutes and miles of a task don't add up. (Good grief.)
You know what? A month in Hawaii is too much information to include here, so if you want more, click on the link below to see more pictures in the web album. I tell you, it was an experience!!!
